General race info
The flagship and most demanding course of the BMTRC – 36 km with approximately 1,900 meters of elevation gain. Starting at the historic Rača Monastery, the trail takes runners twice to the plateau of Tara before the final part from monastery toward the finish in Bajina Bašta.
This is a course for true mountain runners: strong vertical climbs, technical descents, dramatic scenery, and the full spirit of Tara in one race.
Route and profile
The challenge begins from the start. The hardest climb of the entire race greets runners right from the start: an epic ascent from the monastery, passing the Crnjeskovo viewpoint, and pushing all the way to the Kaluđerske Bare plateau – 4 km with around 700 meters of elevation gain.
A fast 1.5 km descent leads to Lake Jarevac, followed by a 1 km section along a mountain stream. After another 2 km climb, runners dive into a steep and fast 4.5 km descent back toward the monastery.
From here, the second major vertical begins – about 800 meters of elevation gained over 5.5 km, climbing to the Sokolina plateau. At the top, the spectacular Sokolarica viewpoint opens over the deep Rača Canyon – a reward worthy of the effort.
A steep and rugged 4 km descent follows, dropping runners to the Lađevac waterfall, and transitioning into a smoother 2 km single-track section back toward Rača Monastery. From here a 2 km of steeper ascent that rewards strong climbers, followed by a dynamic 4 km descent on a mix of technical single-track and rough forest roads. The race concludes with a mostly flat final 2 km, pushing into the finish line in Bajina Bašta – perfect for strong closing speed.
